I've been testing with some wooden plates, but they're so thick and because of it the ball bounces back so hard far over the table. Now I've been trying by putting a cleaning cloth over the wood to absorb some of the power (so it bounces back less far), but that seems to bounce it back with too much backspin, too high and not far enough on the table for me to properly hit it with power.How can I make something, so that the ball bounces back pretty high and far, for me to hit it with power and topspin each time: just like a table tennis coach (or partner) would hit the ball back for you, for you to practice on?. Nope I use a robot now.What I find that is absolutely terrible about the return boards, is that you'll learn to play a specific way so that the ball comes back good for you to hit again. Probably how I learned a pretty bad forehand technique.So the only way a return board is good is if: you play using proper technique and the ball comes back good. You can try this on forehand drive, forehand loop and backhand. But the point is that you have to adjust the return board in such a way that your perfect shot is returned properly.

Adjust the board, don't adjust your technique. (and this is simply incredibly hard to do without spending tons of money.).
