Surgery is always a must have (note even with high surgery a good few of your men may still die.) a few point in inv management is always good, pathfinding is like surgery, a must have usually but caio can cover this. Asbjorn can cover medical and engineering if you hire him.

A high looting level will speed up early game. Sea kings isn't required early game but it is late game. You want a lot of ships. Ironflesh is never required but nice to have. Power strike is always required.Get ceawlin early so you can level im up.
